Head coach

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso (born 1981) is a Spanish former footballer who is currently the head coach of Real Madrid, taking over the role as of June 1, 2025.

Coaching Career

Alonso began his coaching career with Real Madrid’s U14 team, later managing Real Sociedad B from 2019, leading them to promotion to the Segunda División.

In October 2022, he became the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Under his leadership, the team won the 2023–24 Bundesliga title (for the first time in the club’s history) and the DFB-Pokal (German Cup).

He also set a European record with 51 unbeaten matches in a row.

In May 2025, Alonso was appointed head coach of Real Madrid, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti.

His first official match is scheduled for June 18, 2025, at the FIFA Club World Cup.
